Skin Care Regimen: Improving Your Skin

On some nights, my skin care routine is about two minutes (cleansing and moisturizing). And other nights it may be more than five minutes. How much time you spend on taking care of your skin is depend on what you feel your skin needs are.

With a hectic life schedule, we all want our skin care regimen to be less than two minutes. But if you want beautiful, healthy skin you must be committed to your skin care routine - after all, what's a few extra minutes a day to have beautiful looking skin?

Skin Care Regimen: 4 Steps for Healthy Skin

There are four things you must do regularly if you want beautiful and healthy skin:

  1. Cleanse
  2. Exfoliate
  3. Moisturize
  4. Use Sun Block Lotion

Skin Care Step 1: Cleanse - Facial Cleanser

When you wash your face you want to achieve two things: to remove the dirt and oil on the surface of your skin and to normalize your skin condition.

Knowing your skin type when choosing facial skin care product is very important for two reasons:

  • Facial cleanser that is too rich for your skin can clog your pores. Clogged pores traps bacteria and oil inside the pore causing the beginning of a blemish.   I am sure we all hate those blemishes (acne) that make its way to the surface of our skin.
  • If your cleaner is too drying, it can irritate your skin.

Combination or Dry Skin Cleanser

If your have normal / combination or dry skin, you need a more soft and soothing cleanser. Look for cleansers that are creamy or milky with plant oils like sweet almond or jojoba which are also known as goat nut.

Best Facial Cleanser for Oily Skin

If you have oily skin, you need a cleanser that will help to control the excess oil. Avoid heavy cleansing cream and cleaner that contains alcohol. Look for a cleanser that lightly promotes the retention of moisture. For very oily skin, oil free cleanser or a foaming gel is ideal.

The danger of washing your face too often

When your skin is oily it is very tempting to wash it more often. Aggressive cleansing may cause your skin to loose its natural protection and it can become irritated and dry. Too much washing will stimulate your skin to produce more oil so try to limit cleaning your face to two or three times a day.

How to cleanse your face gently

  • Wash your face with warm but not hot water to loosen clogged pores
  • Squeeze a bit of cleanser into your palm and rub your hands together so you get cleanser on both of your hands.
  • Massage your cleanser around your face in circular motions
  • Rinse will cool but not icy cold water to tighten the pores

Facial Cleansing Tip

Water temperature is important because water that is too cold or too hot may cause broken capillaries.
