Skin Type - Skin Type Test

Skin Care: Knowing your Skin Type

Our skin type changes at various point throughout our lives: the passage of time, the changes in climate, and our physical conditions. Specific skin type needs specific care. You must, periodically, test your skin and change your skin care regimen to suit your skin care needs

Factor that determined your skin type includes: genes, stress level, diet, our skin care regimen, and the skin care product you choose. The skin type you have is determined by how much or how little oil your skin produce. Ultimately, the amount of oil your skin produce determined how much oil you will need in your skin care products.

How to determine your skin type: Skin Type Test

Knowing your skin type is very important before beginning a skin care regimen. Knowing your skin type will help you in choosing the correct skin care products. Using the correct skin care products for your skin type will minimize irritation and cosmetics related acne.

Here are 2 simple skin type tests to help you to determine your skin type.

Skin Type Test - 1

  • Wash your face with a non moisturizing soap and pat dry
  • Take a few pieces of lenscleaning tissue or rice paper and press them on different spot on your face

Dry Skin: The paper doesn’t stick or leave oily mark. Choose skin care product that are creamy and rich. Pay attention to your skin and give it moisture when it feels dry or tight.

Normal/ Combination Skin: The paper sticks on the t-zone but not on the cheeks.

Oily Skin: The paper sticks and become translucent as it picks up oily spots. Skin care product for oily skin should be non-oily and water based.

Skin Type Test - 2

As soon as you wake up, the first thing in the morning, blot your face with a lens cleansing tissue.

Dry Skin: The tisssue is dry

Normal / Combination Skin: The tissue show traces oily at the t-zone and dry at other places.

Oily Skin: The tissue show traces of oil all over your face
