Types of Hair Conditioner
On its own, your hair is naturally shinny. When your hair is damaged, the hair cuticle doesn't lie flat so your hair can't slide by one another with ease. This cause your hair to tangle. If your hair strands are coarse, thick, curly, or prone to tangle, using hair conditioner will make combing easier.
There are 5 basic types of hair conditioner:
Leave in Hair Conditioner: This is a comb through but don't rinse out conditioner that protect your hair from sun and heat damage. A great conditioner if you heat style your hair frequently or if your hair is exposed to the sun very often.
Deep Conditioning or Repairing Hair Conditioner: This is a deep conditioner that you leave in for about 10 to 20 minutes then rinse out. Deep conditioning will combat the damage of chemical treatments, hair coloring, and heat styling by patching proteins and moisturizers into the cracks of damage hair to replenish lost moisture. If your hair is dry, break easily, have split ends, or over processed, use a deep conditioner hair treatment once a month.
Rinse Through Hair Conditioner: This is a hair conditioner that you leave in your hair for less than a minute then you rinse out.
This conditioner will softens your hair, smoothes the hair cuticle to increase shine, and reduces static and tangles. It's a great conditioner if your hair is dry or break easily from chemical processing or excessive heat styling.
Volumizing Hair Conditioner: Great if you have thin hair. Volumizing conditioner makes hair appear fuller.
Detangler: Smoothes and detangle your hair. If you have short, fine hair you don't need to use hair conditioner because conditioner will make your hair look flat. If you need to detangle, detangler is great because it will help to detangle without weighing your hair down.
How to Apply Hair Conditioner
After rinsing off hair shampoo, squeeze excess water from your hair so it will absorb the hair conditioner better.
- Apply some conditioner to the palm of your hand
- Rub your hands together to spread conditioner onto your palms
- Apply conditioner from the middle of your hair and down through the ends. Do not massage conditioner onto your scalp unless your scalp is dry.
- Leave conditioner on long hair (for a few seconds) to help smooth the cuticle
- If your hair tangles, with a wide-toothed comb, comb from bottom up, a little bit at a time.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- After rinsing, gently blot your hair dry. Don't rub your hair because rubbing can damage the hair cuticle as well as yanking your hair out.
Hair Care Tip
Let your hair dry naturally instead of using a blow dryer will help protect your hair from over drying.
