Natural Hair Dye - Henna Hair Color

Henna is a deposit-only permanent hair color. It’s made from the leaves of the Lawsonia inermis plan and is more gentle on your hair than commercial hair dyes. Henna hair color is the only 100% natural way to color your hair.

Henna Hair Color Shades

Henna will not lighten your hair. It colors your hair by coating the hair shaft and staining the cuticle. In terms of colors, red is the most well known shade of henna. There are also neutral and black henna. By blending these three shades of henna other variation of colors are created.

Depending where you color your hair, some salons will enhance the shades of henna hair color by adding food-based coloring to the mixture. To enhance the shades of brown, instead of using water they may use coffee. Or, using concentrated carrot juice or pomegranates to brighten the copper in red hair.

Henna Hair Color & Perm Hair

Typically, hair that has been colored with henna cannot be curled. Avoid henna if you plan on getting a perm or have permed hair. Because henna colors your hair by coating the hair shaft, the coating may prevents the chemical in the perm solution from penetrating. And, when mineral salts in the henna reacts to the chemicals in the perm solution, your perm may not turn out as you expected. The collision of these chemicals may also change the shades of your hair color.
