Washing Cloth Diapers
Washing cloth diapers is easy so don’t let the idea of how gross and inconvenient it is scares you away from cloth diapers. If you’re planning on using cloth diapers keep in mind that cloth diapers doesn’t need to be wash every time you get a wet or soiled diaper. Instead, cloth diapers can be soaked in a diaper pail until there are enough diapers (about 24 diapers) to be washed.
Soaking & Washing Cloth Diapers
-
Fill the diaper pail three quarter full of water and add three quarter cup of vinegar to the water. When soaking cloth diapers do not use bleach.
-
You don’t need to rinsed wet diapers before soaking them in a diaper pail. But if your baby had bowel movements then rinsed soiled diapers in the toilet before soaking them. Also, fastened Velcro fasteners to avoid diaper chains.
-
When you’re ready to wash your baby’s cloth diapers or when the diaper pail is full, empty the diaper pail into the washing machine and spin out excess water.
-
Fill the machine to the highest level with hot water.
-
Use detergent that is free of fragrances and dyes. You don’t need to add fabric softeners because fabric softens can create a waxy build up on your cloth diapers making the diapers less absorbent to your baby’s urine.
-
Give the cloth diapers an extra rinse after the end of the cycle.
-
Cloth diapers can be dry in the dryer or hang outside on a rail or line.
